Mayoral Notes

Dear Residents of Peebles,

It is with deep regret that we share the news that the Peebles Village City Hall must be demolished due to serious safety concerns. After a thorough professional inspection, it was determined that the building’s condition poses an unacceptable risk to the public.

Over the past several months, we explored every possible avenue to preserve this historic structure. This included applying for grants, seeking outside funding, and consulting with the Ohio History Connection regarding potential restoration options. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, no viable path forward was found.

The Village of Peebles simply does not have the financial resources necessary to bring the building up to current safety codes. We know how meaningful this building has been to our community, and please know that this decision was not made lightly.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this difficult time, and we remain committed to serving our village with transparency and care.

Sincerely,
The Village of Peebles Council, Mayor, and Administration

How it All Began

History

Peebles was founded in 1881 with the building of the railroad through that territory. It was named for John G. Peebles, who was instrumental in bringing the railroad to the settlement. That railroad was the Cincinnati & Eastern Railroad, today the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad (CCET).
